I watched Midnight Cowboy last night. I was impressed at how the film hasn't dated much. Its editing was very modern and still is, and some of the shots were spectacular. There is a 'psychedelic party' scene in the movie and I must say the music for that scene reminded instantly of Broadcast and Pram. After doing some research, I discovered that the music at that point in the film is a song by a band called Elephant's memory. I also read somewhere that this band was a big influence of people like Stereolab... No wonder. But I have also read a lot of different other things and I am not sure that the track from that scene 'Old Man Willow' is representative of their sound. If anyone has some tracks to post somewhere or info about this band, I am keen to learn about Elephant's Memory.

J'ai vu Midnight Cowboy hier soir. J'ai ete impressione par la modernite de ce film qui date de 1969. Le montage est impressionnant et bien au-dessus de la plupart des films actuels, et de nombreuses prises de vue sont tout simplement superbes. En ce qui concerne la bande son, j'ai ete interpelle a un moment par un morceau qui m'a rappele aussitot Broadcast et Pram. C'etait tellement flagrant que j'ai du faire une petite recherche car je voulais connaitre qui etait a l'origine de ce morceau. Le groupe en question s'appelle Elephant's memory et le titre est 'Old man Willow'. Je lu que ce groupe avait influence pas mal de monde dont entre autre Stereolab. J'ai egalement lu pleins d'autres choses mais je me demande si cette chanson est bien representative de leur son. Si quelqu'un a des morceaux a poster ou des infos sur ce groupe, qu'il me le dise car je suis interesse d'en savoir plus.

(Hats Off To) Dror Frangi (mp3)

I will never forget the first time i saw The Chap live. They blew me away. It was a year and a half ago at State 51 in London and I had just got their first record The Horse at the Reckless second-hand record store on Upper street - they were a few of them actually in the box and I bought the record for the artwork. I didn't really get the music the first couple of times I played it. It went in all directions : a kind of arty indie/lo-fi pop music with beats. But then it all made sense pretty quickly and I believe today The Chap is one of the most exciting band in the UK. This track is from The Horse. I can't wait to listen to their new album out on June 23.

Je n'oublierai jamais la premiere fois que j'ai vu The Chap en concert. C'était il y a un an et demi a Londres et je venais d'acheter quelques jours plus tot leur premier album The Horse dans un magasin d'occasions (j'ai d'ailleurs acheté le disque pour sa pochette car je ne connaissais pas le groupe). Il m'a fallu plusieurs ecoutes pour comprendre ce disque car la musique partait dans toutes les directions. Puis tout s'est mis en place rapidement et j'estime que The Chap est un des meilleurs groupes anglais actuellement (enfin, le groupe est composé d'un allemand, d'un grec, d'un écossais et d'une franco-anglaise). Ce morceau est tiré de The Horse. Je suis impatient d'écouter leur nouvel album qui sort le 23 juin prochain.

In an ideal world this should be the summer's anthem. I love this track, it makes me happy everytime i listen to it. It's fun and light and yet rough and raw. Captain comatose are Khan and DJ Snax. I must admit that I have never really been impressed by Khan not even his collaborations with Julee Cruise (well now I might go back and listen to again his old stuff), but this is fantastic. I only hope the rest of the record is as good.

Dans un monde parfait, ce morceau deviendrait l'hymne de l'ete 2005 au lieu de la enieme lambada. Je n'arrete pas d'ecouter To My Song en boucle: ca me rend de bonne humeur a chaque fois. J'aime le cote lo-fi disco brut de cette chanson. Comatose, c'est Khan et DJ Snax. Je n'ai jamais ete un grand fan de Khan pas meme ses collaborations avec Julie Cruise (quoique je devrais peut-etre y retourner), mais ce morceau est simplement superbe. J'espere que le disque est aussi bon.
